Kashmir - The Paradise - Day 7: Pahalgam - Delhi

Starting at  around 6am from Pahalgam and our target was to reach Jammu or Pathankot by evening. Luckily there was no truck traffic and reached Jammu by 1PM. So decided to continue all the way to Delhi. Stopped for evening snacks at Haveli again. Reached Delhi about 1AM, 19 hrs long drive! It was difficult to locate the Punjab road tax booth. J&K road tax was closed and it was at the same location where we paid the tax. But we were stopped after entering Delhi for paying MCD entry tax! The zoomcar was registered in DL and still entry tax!! That was a surprise. Since we missed paying, we had to also pay a fine of 400! Looked like a loot!

The state of public transport in J&K is pathetic to say the least! We hardly saw any state government buses plying the roads. Infrastructure development lacks by miles in this part of our country.

Our Work Horse

Zoomcar:

Zoomcar experience wasn't that great. They downgraded the car hours before pickup. Fortunately, we were able to fit in our luggage and ecosport was enough for us. Bad pickup location..It was like a haunted place. We expected a professional looking place for Zoomcar pickup. But the car was good, it was new and had only 1600km on odo when we picked it up. On the other side, there was a speed limit of 80 Km/hr!! This was due to the latest govt regulations, but was a real killer on the first day. Boring drive, powerless car!

HVK: King of HighWays!

This trip was made possible by HVK. I had taken the Ladak product from HVK and had few discussions with HVK before finalizing the plan. They provided the maps for the entire trip except for Pahalgam. They booked the rooms at all places, which are all pretty good and at a very reasonable budget. Beyond all that, through out the trip HVK kept in touch with us via whatsapp and provided inputs whenever needed and clarified our doubts. The very thought that someone is aware of our location and whereabouts is a big relief, especially in a conflicted location like Kashmir. I would recommend HVK for all your travel!
